Student Member FAQ

STUDENT MEMBERS: Have a question about your new membership or renewal? I’ve assembled a list of Frequently Asked Questions (and the answers to them)

What is the membership year?

Regardless of when you join, the membership year is from January 1 through December 31. The only exception is new members who join after October – those memberships are good until the following December 31.

How much are dues?

National Dues are $40.00 for 2006. Local chapters usually have a separate dues structure to support local chapter activities. Check with your chapter or faculty advisor to find out how much they are.

Are dues pro-rated?

No

How long does it take for my membership to be processed?

Allow 90 days for new memberships. Renewals are much faster. If you haven’t heard anything after 90 days, check with your Chapter Leadership Team, call your SRB (Student Representative to the Board) or someone on the Membership committee for recommendations. Also available now is on-line membership. Go to www.asid.org and you can renew or join ASID online vs. mailing your application.

What do I do if 90 days have passed and I still haven’t gotten anything from National?

Talk to your Chapter Leadership Team first, then either call or e-mail the Membership team at National (www.asid.org or 202-546-3480). Be sure that you have a check image or credit card statement showing that payment was made, and note the date.

How do I take advantage of Members Only events when I don’t have a membership card yet?

Most student chapters in Colorado have a system for documenting members. Some chapters even produce their own cards just for this circumstance. Again, talk to your Chapter Leadership Team.

I’m not getting notice of local events or my ASID Icon magazine. How do I fix that?

1. Check your contact information on-line at www.asid.org.
Click on ‘update profile’ and log in using your user name (first initial + first 9 letters of last name) and password (your membership number).
  • Because…if your address has changed ASID National will not know where to send ICON.
  • And… if your e-mail address has changed, you cannot get ASID Flash or E-mail Blasts from ASID Colorado.
  • 2. If your permanent mailing address is out of state, you may be on another state’s roster. Try changing it to a Colorado mailing address.

You can update all of this information on line, and it should get better. But…ONLY YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION!!!

What publications should I be getting?

ASID ICON Magazine, ACCESS (the National Student Newsletter), ASID Flash (if you’ve subscribed to it on-line) ASID Colorado Membership Directory, notification of local chapter programs & events by e-mail and other invitations as appropriate to chapter events.

When are the Professional Chapter Events?

The Chapter Board meetings are open to visitors and are at 5pm on the first Wednesday of each month. Locations vary, so call the Meeting Edge to verify your attendance and learn the location. Program Events are usually the Tuesday following the Board meetings (but not always) Check the Colorado Chapter Website (www.asidcolorado.org) first, call a board member or The Meeting Edge for information.

I would like to get more involved, but don’t want to over-commit myself. How do I do this without getting in over my head?

All committee members understand the limits students have on time, money and energy. Volunteer assignments are usually short-term, (an hour or two at most) and are a great way to meet your future colleagues! Call any board member to get the ball rolling.
